Beaumont becomes Hogwarts for a magical Harry Potter Day

Muggles from across Leicester enjoyed a day of wizardry and magic at Beaumont Shopping Centre in celebration of the world's most famous young wizard.

At Beaumont's Harry Potter Tribute Day shoppers had met Hagrid, Harry and Dumbledore lookalikes who have launched many of the Harry Potter books in London. Harry Potter lookalike Luke Williams has been impersonating the character since he was 13 years old and he is also an accomplished magician and a member of the Young Magicians Club.

"Children were treated to a fabulous Hogwarts show throughout the day which required lots of audience participation. Brave children were brought up on stage to help with lots of thrilling magic including a rather tricky hand guillotine.

And after the show Professor Sprout held magical planting classes where her students decorated magic pots in which to plant a special beanstalk to take home.

"It's been an absolutely brilliant, I've loved it," said budding Harry Potter Max Crabb (age 7, pictured above) who came with his Mum.

Hundreds of children turned up with parents and grandparents to take part in the day. Beaumont's brilliant team of face-painters were also on hand to give children a wizard face.

Sarah Duffin, Beaumont Shopping Centre manager, said: "We wanted to celebrate the launch of the latest Harry Potter film with a magical event all about the world of Hogwarts. Our children really got into the spirit of the day."

Beaumont Shopping Centre get's the 'aaaah' factor

Leicester shopper Felicity Evans , 17, got a springtime surprise when she came face to face with a pintsized piglet at Beaumont Shopping Centre's Easter farm.

"I can't believe how tiny the piglets are. They are really cute" said Felicity Evans who attended the event with her niece Lilly Evans, 2.

The two day old piglet was one of a pair of German mini-micro pigs on show at the Centre over the Easter weekend. Thought to be the world's smallest breed, the piglets were joined by lambs, chicks, rabbits and goats at the free farm and pets events. Measuring only 6 inches long the piglets will only grow to be around foot and a half when fully grown.

"The gorgeous little piglets really were the stars of the day - everyone was amazed at how tiny they were. Our shoppers have had a fantastic two days of Easter events at the centre" said Sarah Duffin, Centre Manager.

Also on hand to entertain the children were our free face painters and our comedy farmer Giles who needed the children's help to run around the centre looking for his lost animals. Children enjoyed watching the animal puppet show and listening to the story telling.

Pets on Parade at Beaumont Shopping Centre

Shoppers and their children were able find out more about caring for pets at the Beaumont Shopping Centre this Easter (9th April).

Staff and students from Brooksby Melton College were in Beaumont Shopping Centre for the day to give demonstrations and talk to children about pet welfare and first aid. Children and adults had a great day meeting the brilliant animals brought in by the college including dogs, guinea pigs, rabbits ferrets, a tortoise and even a Japanese chicken.

Brooksby Melton college which is the largest provider of further education courses in animal care in Leicestershire attracts students from all over the UK. As well as practical pointers on keeping pets the event also offered children and teenagers advice on the career options available working with animals.

"Everyone really enjoyed meeting the people and the fantastic pets from Brooksby Melton College. The event has been such a success that we're hoping the college will come again in the summer" said Sarah Duffin, centre manager, Beaumont Shopping Centre.

Ten year old Lauren Hudson who came with her Mum said: "I'm interested in a job working with animals. My favourite thing today has been stroking Ruby the Japanese chicken - she was really soft and she started falling asleep when I stroked her head."

Brooksby Melton College student Daisy Johnson, 17, who is studying animal management, came along to speak to the children with her gorgeous Hungarian Visler dog. Daisy said: "I've always loved animals since I've been little, so it's great to encourage other children and help them to learn more about looking after their animals properly."

Little Lily Evans, two, who spent over an hour at the event meeting all the animals, had a great day. She is pictured here with Flopsy, a grey Lionhaired rabbit.

Kym Wilson, marketing manager for Brooksby Melton College, said: "It's been a brilliant day. We've talked to hundreds of children and their families - we've even signed up 12 students for our part-time courses in the summer."

Batmania at Beaumont

On 23 July Batmania hit Beaumont Shopping Centre at our special Batman fancy dress party to celebrate the launch of the new film.

The stars of the day were the caped crusader’s famous vehicles – the Batmobile and the Batcycle. Kids and their parents were able to get up close to check out all the special features on the vehicles such as the famous Batphone, the parachute pod and Robin’s self propelling side car. Batman and his trusty sidekick Robin the Boy Wonder were there all day; not to mention Batman’s feline nemesis Catwoman.

Face painters and a balloon modeler were on hand to add to the fun and kids came along in superhero-inspired fancy dress. Competition was really tough for the best fancy dress costume of the day but the judges agreed that six year old Leo Heimes’ home-made Superman costume was the best. Leo won £50 of film vouchers, and he has taken all his family and friends to see the big film hit of the summer Wall-E.

Easter Funtime

Everyone had a brilliant time at our Easter Extravaganza this year despite the wintery weather.
Our Easter farm was a big hit with shoppers who got the chance to meet gorgeous fluffy chicks and ducklings, rabbits, guinea pigs and a rather cheeky pygmy goat.
In the Bradgate Mall kids got creative with our Easter crafts, making some brilliant cards and Easter chicks.
Over three hundred shoppers took part in our egg hunt around the centre on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.
All the participants got a chocolate treat at the end of the hunt and lucky Charlotte Smith won a Nintendo DS Lite kindly donated by Argos Xtra.
And to make Easter really special our trusty mascot Beaumont Bunny was on hand to hand out chocolate eggs to our shoppers.

After Easter everything went a little bit tropical in Beaumont when we brought the zoo to Beaumont.
Kids got to learn all about the rainforests and the desert when they got the chance to get up close to snakes, macaws, skunks and even a family of cheeky meerkats.

On Thursday 27th March we challenged our younger shoppers to learn to climb when Tower Climbing Centre set up their new mobile climbing wall at Beaumont.
